DEVELOP THE FOLLOWING FORTNIGHTLY ROUTINE
Change about 25% of the aquarium water
Switch off heater
Remove any algae from front of glass
Trim back any superfluous plant growth
Remove any waste surplus from the bottom of the tank
Remove about ¼ of the water from your aquarium
Remove and clean, or replace where necessary, filter material. To clean the filter wool . . .let the tap run fast and squeeze all the dirt out of the wadding.
Replace removed water with fresh lukewarm tap water (try to maintain the existing . . . ...temperature in the aquarium - add water conditioner)
Ensure that new water is properly conditioned. Add, according to directions on the bottles the following:
Water conditioner designed to remove Chlorine and Chloramines from tap water.
Water tonic designed to reproduce a tropical environment in aquarium water and . . . . . . . thereby encourage better spawning.
Plant tonic designed to make plant flourish by adding vital trace elements.
|
|
Confirm water conditions by testing. Make sure that carrying out the following tests properly restores aquarium conditions.
Acidity/Alkalinity balance with a pH test. Any amendments in water pH to be carried . . . .out.
General and Carbonate hardness with a gH and kH test. Hardness can usually be . . . . . .reduced by regularly replacing part of the water with aged tap water. If this does not . . . . .work, distilled water may be used.
Nitrite pollutant level with a NO2 test. High Nitrite/Nitrate levels must be immediately . . . .reduced by replacing part of the water and adding water conditioner.
